6 Ways to Improve Your Attitude.

Inquire after Him. Pursue Him. Explore Him. Sounds simple enough, but it is so important to be consistent in our relationship with God. Renew your mind and affirm yourself in the Word of God. Let it encourage you and satisfy you. Jeremiah 29:13-14 says You will find God, if you seek Him with ALL your heart. Jesus is our Prince of Peace!
#2 Change your surroundings.
If you must remain indoors, add fresh flowers to your desk or kitchen table to brighten up the room. Open the windows and get some fresh air. Get up and take a break or a short walk, breathing deeply and exhaling your frustrations. Focusing on God’s promises. If you keep negative people in your circle of friends, then it might be time to clean out your friends list. If you have the time, get outside, go for a long walk and soak up the sunshine.
Proverbs 13:20 “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.”
#3 Learn to lighten up!
Don’t take yourself or life so seriously. Dig out the old sense of humor box that is buried deep inside of you and put it to use. Laugh at yourself. Extend grace to others. Watch a funny movie or read a humorous book. Laughing, often times, will lift the fog of a bad attitude!
Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”
Forgive others, even without an apology. It’s easy to get discouraged and even hurt by what others do or don’t do to us. Be ready and resolved in your mind to let it go and give it to God when others hurt you. With full abandonment. Your attitude will improve when you can extend forgiveness freely. (This isn’t offering excuses for their bad behavior or actions, but rather freeing you from the prison that unforgiveness can put us in. )
#5 Stop Complaining!
Seriously. It’s hard all over. You cannot change what others do around you. Nope. You cannot control your spouse, kids, boss, friends, etc. BUT you can start to take control of what you allow your mind to dwell on. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on GOOD things.
#6 Keep a gratitude journal and show appreciation.
Be thankful for the little things. A gratitude journal will focus our thoughts and heart on the positive side of people, situations and events. Take the time to write down at least three things you are grateful for. Even if it’s the smallest of things.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Let’s take steps to improving our attitude. It is a daily choice we each have to make. Trust God to guide you as you lean on Him for your peace.
